Who can use this feature
Users on Figma Organization Plan
Anyone who is new to an Organization or has moved from a Professional Team to an Organization
When you move from a Professional Team to an Organization there are some changes to get used to.
You'll spot most of these differences in the File Browser.
Ownership in an Organization
There are a few things to think about when you first join an Organization:
Domain capture is a fancy term for identifying your work email address. This lets us know that you are part of the Organization.
Your Organization Admin will let us know which company domains are supported e.g. email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
If your Organization has set up SAML SSO, you will be able to login using your company name and email. Your Organization Admin will let you know if this is supported. Check out our Log in to an Organization article for detailed instructions.
Using a different work email? If you've signed into Figma using a work email that hasn't been verified via SAML SSO, we will create a new account for you in the Organization. You'll be required to join any Teams you're a part of manually.
Already using Figma with a different email address? If you've been using Figma under a personal email, or an address not registered to the Organization, you won't be able to access these from the Organization. You can update the email address you're using to your company email.

Existing Teams, Files and Projects
If you were already signed up for Figma with your work email, we will bring across all of your existing Files and Projects to the Organization.
Existing Teams will be brought across to the Organization as part of the move. Your Organization Admin will be in charge of indicating which Teams need to be in the Organization.
Missing Teams in your account? If you're missing entire Teams from your Figma account - and they aren't in your Personal File Browser - they may not have been migrated. We recommend contacting your Organization Admin to confirm.
Any Files you create within the Organization File Browser are owned by the Organization.
If you leave or are removed from the Organization, any Files and Drafts will remain with the Organization.
Managing your Profile
If your Organization is managed via SAML SSO, there are some aspects of your account you will no longer be able to manage in Figma.
We recommend contacting your Systems Administrator to change your:
- Email Address
- Profile Picture
Your Organization's Admins will determine which Teams are moved to the Organization.
If you can't find your Team within the Organization, we recommend reaching out an Organization Admin to confirm.
Tip! You can find any Teams associated with your account, that weren't migrated, in your Personal File Browser. Learn more in the Personal versus Organization File Browser section below.
Permissions in an Organization
Within an Organization, there are many levels of access.
- Organization Permissions You have a Role and an Account Type which determine:
- What you can discover and use within the Organization.
- How you can interact with Teams, Files and Projects in the Organization.
- Whether we include you in the Organization's billing.
- Team Permissions These determine how you can interact with Team Files and Projects.
- Project Permissions
Professional Teams are able to set different permissions at a Project-level. This is handy if:
- A viewer needs Edit access to a single Project.
- You want to create a private Project within the Team.
- You want to invite someone from outside the Team to a specific Project.
- File Permissions
You can also set different permissions at a File-level. This is handy if:
- A viewer needs Edit access to a single File.
- You want to invite someone from outside the Team to a specific File.
In an Organization we give every member of an Organization a Role and an Account Type.
A member's Permissions - on any Teams, Files or Projects - will dictate their Role in the Organization. The Role also determines if we include that Member in your billing.
There are three Roles in an Organization:
You can find a member's Role in the Members tab of the Admin Console.
A member's Account Type determines what resources and settings they have access to.
We generally refer to everyone in an Organization as a Member. However, there are three types of Accounts in an Organization.
You can think of Admins and Guests as a subset of Member.
Learn more about Organization Permissions in our Permissions in an Organization article.
Personal versus Organization Space
Within your Figma account, you will have both an Organization and a Personal Space.
Both of these are linked to the one account, which is registered to your company email.
In your Personal File Browser you can:
✅ Access Teams that weren't migrated to the Organization
✅ Access Teams outside of the Organization you have joined with your company email
✅ Run plugins that haven't been whitelisted by the Organization
In your Personal File Browser you can't:
❌ Access Libraries that are shared within Teams in the Organization
❌ Access Libraries that are shared across the Organization
❌ Access Fonts that have been uploaded to the Organization
❌ Run plugins that are Private to the Organization
Switch Between Space
You can switch between your Personal and Organization File Browser.
Click the Organization name in the bottom-left corner:
- Select Personal File Browser to open the Personal File Browser.
- Select <Organization name> to open the Organization File Browser.
It's not possible to move Files, Projects or Teams between your Personal and Organization File Browser. Make sure you are in the correct File Browser when creating new Files and Projects!

Access Organization Files and Libraries
In an Organization, you can access Styles and Components from a variety of places. This includes:
- Styles and Components local to your Files
- Libraries that are shared with the entire Organization
- Libraries shared within Teams that you are included in
- Libraries that have been enabled in Files by default
Organization Admins can choose which default Libraries to enable. You can then find these enabled libraries in the Assets Panel in your Files.
When you search for Components in the Assets Panel, we will search across all Libraries within the Organization.

Discover and Join Teams
Teams are groups of designers and collaborators that work together on specific projects. Each Team you create in Figma will have its own Team Page where you can manage a Team's Members, Projects and Files.
There is no limit on how many Teams you can have within an Organization. You can also be a part of more than one Team in an Organization.
A Team's type, or Org Access, determines how you can discover or join the Team.
You can find a list of all Teams in your Organization from the Organization Page. This allows you to:
- View All Teams in an Organization
- See the Team Name, Description and Member count
- Join an Open Team
- Request to Join a Closed Team
- Create a New Team
- Leave a Team
