Use closed captioning for audio

Use closed captions with audio to show live transcripts of audio conversations between people in the file. Closed captions transcribe what speakers are saying into text, allowing you to read what speakers are saying as they are saying it.

Closed captions also display the avatar and name of who is speaking to help you track who said what.

• Closed captions with audio are available by default in the Figma Desktop app.
• To use closed captions in the browser, download Google Chrome and enable the Live Caption feature.

Use closed captions in the desktop app

Join an audio conversation on the Figma desktop app, and enable closed captions to see who is speaking and a transcript of what they are saying.

Enable closed captions

There are two ways to turn on closed captioning:

In a file

1. Join an audio conversation from the Figma desktop app by clicking your avatar in a Figma Design, FigJam, or Figma Slides file, then clicking the headphones icon.
2. Click Settings.
3. Click the toggle next to Closed captioning to toggle it on or off.

From account settings

Closed captioning preferences are user-specific. When you turn closed captions on or off from account settings, the preference applies only to your Figma account. Other accounts on the same device keep their own preferences, and your preference stays with you when you use another device.

1. Open the file browser on your desktop app.
2. Click on the account menu in the top-left and select Settings.
3. From the Account tab, scroll to the Closed captions section and click the toggle to turn the setting on and off.

Using closed captions

A. Caption box

Once closed captions are enabled, the transcript will appear inside the caption box attached to your audio controls, with the oldest transcripts at the top, and the newest transcripts at the bottom.

A speaker's avatar and name appear above their transcript, so you can keep track of who said what.

Scroll up in the caption box to browse the transcript history, which begins when you join the conversation. If new transcripts are available while you're scrolled up the caption box, a ↓ New transcripts button will appear at the bottom of the caption box. Click it to return to the bottom of the caption box and see the latest transcripts.

When you leave the conversation, Figma clears the transcript from the caption box. If at any point you re-join the same conversation, the transcript starts over empty.

B. Adjust caption size

1. On the bottom-right corner of your audio controls, click .
2. The dropdown menu will display available sizes in the actual size they will appear in the caption area:
   • Small (13px)
   • Medium (14px)
   • Large (16px)
   • X-Large (18px)
3. Select an option. All captions will adjust to the selected size.

C. Minimize the caption box

Click the closed captions bar to minimize and expand the caption box.

Use Live Caption in Chrome

Live Caption is a closed captioning feature provided by Chrome. It is available only in the Chrome browser in English.

1. In the Chrome browser, click the More icon in the top right-hand corner.
2. Click Settings.
3. In the left-hand panel, click Advanced > Accessibility.
4. This should take you to the Accessibility section where you'll see an option for Live Caption.
5. Click the toggle to turn Live Caption on or off, then select or change the default language as needed.

When Live Caption is enabled, a caption box appears in your browser window. You can click and drag the caption box to move it. To change the caption box's placement, color, volume, or size, select Caption Preferences.
