Before you start
Who can use this feature
Supported on any team or plan.
Anyone with can view access can use spotlight.
Spotlight lets you gather collaborators in a file to follow your view of the Figma design canvas, prototype, or FigJam board. Spotlight yourself to:
- Facilitate workshops, meetings, and team exercises
- Guide your audience through your design, prototype, team exercise, or slide deck
- Request everyone in a file follow you around a canvas, FigJam board, or prototype
- Gather all collaborators in one part of your canvas, FigJam board, or prototype
When you spotlight yourself, all collaborators viewing a file are notified you’ve requested they follow you. Collaborators in a file have the option to ignore your request. Once they accept your invitation to follow, they’re shown your view of the file’s board, canvas, or prototype. This comes in handy when using audio conversations for running meetings and workshops in FigJam and Figma design.
- Hover over your avatar in the top toolbar of a FigJam or Figma design file.
- Click Spotlight me.
At this point, everyone currently viewing the file will be notified you’d like them to follow you. They have a few seconds to ignore your request before being shown your view of the file.
Once you’re in the spotlight, you’ll see how many people in the file are following you and your avatar will have a dashed border.
To stop a spotlight, click Stop at the top-center of your canvas or board.
Presenting is more fun when you share the spotlight. Collaborators can take the spotlight at any time. When someone else in the file hovers over their avatar and clicks Spotlight me, everyone in the file is notified that someone else is asking to be followed.
Tip! To show someone else’s view while keeping the spotlight, presenters can click on another collaborator’s avatar to follow them around the board or canvas while keeping the spotlight on themselves.
Follow a presenter
When a collaborator asks everyone in the file to follow them using spotlight, you have the option to ignore their request and keep your current view and location in the file or prototype. Don’t worry, you can still follow them at any time while they’re in the spotlight. Otherwise, you’ll be placed in follow mode and be shown the view of the person in the spotlight. The avatar for the person in the spotlight will have a dashed border.
Tip! Follow anyone’s view in a file at any time by clicking their avatar.
To stop following someone in the spotlight, click anywhere on the canvas or board. At this point, you can explore the file as you please.
If you want to go back to following the person in the spotlight, click their avatar in the top toolbar, which will have a dashed border.
