Who can use this feature
Anyone with can edit access to a file can delete or restore it for all collaborators.
Anyone with can edit access to a file can delete files forever.
Anyone with can edit or can view access can duplicate deleted files to drafts.
When you delete a file, Figma will remove the file from the project for all collaborators. You will now only be able to access the file from your deleted files folder.
View, restore, and permanently delete files in the Deleted tab of your Drafts. Figma stores deleted files indefinitely, until you or another collaborator deletes them forever.

Delete a file
Caution: Deleting a file will remove the file for all collaborators, not just yourself. To remove a file from your file browser for just yourself, we recommend you leave the file instead.

File browser
- Open the project where the file lives.
- Right-click on the file to open the file menu.
- Select Delete from the options.
- Figma will move the file to your Deleted files. This will also remove the file for all collaborators.

- With your Figma file open, click on an empty spot in the canvas to deselect any layers.
- In the toolbar, click the next to the file name.
- Select Delete from the options.
- Figma will move the file to your Deleted files. This will also remove the file for all collaborators.
Find deleted files
When you delete a file, Figma will remove the file for all collaborators and move it to Deleted files tab. Files remain in the Deleted files folder until restored or deleted forever.
The Deleted files tab is an archive of all deleted files you had access to. If anyone else deletes a file or project you have access to, the files will also appear here. It's not possible to open a deleted file, but you can restore ↓, duplicate ↓, or permanently delete ↓ deleted files.
Sort and filter
Once you are in the Deleted files tab, you can view, sort, and filter any deleted files that you had access to. Here are the available options:

Created by
Use the Created by... to view deleted files by creator. Choose from:
- Created by Anyone: All deleted files you had access to, including files you created and other collaborators created.
- Created by You (default): Files you created.
- Created by Others: Files created by other collaborators.

Sort
Use the drop-down to Sort your results
- Date deleted (default)
- Alphabetical
- Date created
- Last modified
- C
Order
Choose between Ascending or Descending (default) order.
Tip! Descending order for dates and last modified means most recent to least recent. Descending alphabetical order means Descending means Z → A → numerical

View
Click List and Grid to switch between views in the file browser.

Note: Search results will not include files in the Deleted tab, or files that have been deleted forever.
Restore deleted files
If its original projects still exists, anyone with can edit access can restore a file. This restores the file for anyone who had access to it at the time of deletion.
This will also keep the permissions, comments, version history, and library connections of the original file.
- Click on Drafts in the file browser.
- Select the Deleted tab.
- Right-click on the file to open the file menu.
- Select Restore to restore to the File to its original location.
Note: If you don't see an option to restore your file, this is because you had can view access to the file.

Duplicate deleted files
Anyone with access to a file will be able to duplicate a deleted file.
If you had can view access to a file or if its parent project gets deleted, then you won't be able to restore the file to its original location. Instead, you can make a copy of the file in your Drafts.
- Click Drafts in the sidebar and select the Deleted tab.
- Right-click on the file to open the file menu.
- Select Duplicate to Drafts to create a copy of the File in your Drafts.
- Switch back to the Drafts tab to view and access the file.

Delete files forever
Caution: This action will permanently delete the file for all collaborators. Proceed with caution.
Anyone with can edit
access to the file can delete the file forever. This action is permanent and can't be undone.
If you don't see the Delete forever option when interacting with a file, it means you didn't have edit access to the file and you won't be able to delete it forever.
- Click on Drafts in the file browser.
- Navigate to the Deleted tab.
- Right-click on the file to open the file menu.
- Select Delete forever from the options.

Note: If you had access to a project that got deleted, only the containing files to which you had explicit permissions on will show up in your Deleted tab.
