Doodle and highlight in FigJam with drawing tools

Use FigJam's marker, highlighter, and washi tape tools to draw on the board and other objects. It's a fun way to add your personality, call attention to something on the board, or doodle something fun.

Marker tool
Create a doodle
To use the marker tool to draw your next masterpiece:
- Click the drawing tools in the toolbar and select the marker tool, or press M.
- Pick a color, and thin or thick stroke weight. You can always change this after you create your doodle.
- Click and drag on the board to doodle.
If you're looking for a bit more structure in your doodles, hold Shift to draw a straight line.
The marker tool stays active until you select another tool or press Esc. By default, the marker draws with a thin, gray stroke.
Marker doodles are separate objects on the board that can't be contained by any shape or sticky. You can group doodles and other objects together if needed. Learn how to group objects in FigJam →
Edit a doodle
Change color and thickness
You can change a marker doodle's color and thickness — or stroke weight — at any time.
- With the select tool V active, select the doodle on the board.
- Click the color picker to change color, or click to change the stroke weight.
Resize a doodle
Drag the side or corner of a doodle's bounding box to resize it. Straight-lined doodles can only be resized length-wise, while other doodles will resize proportionally.
Delete doodles
To delete a marker doodle:
- Select any doodles you want to remove.
- Press Delete or Backspace
You can also use the eraser tool to delete marker strokes.

Highlighter
Create a highlight
To highlight your board:
- Click the drawing tool in the toolbar and select the highlighter, or press ⇧ Shift M.
- Pick a color, and thin or thick stroke weight. You can always change this after you create your highlight.
- Click and drag on the board to draw a highlight. Hold Shift to highlight in a straight line.
The highlighter tool stays active until you select another tool or press Esc.
Highlights are semi-transparent. To deepen a highlight, draw over it again or duplicate it. Repeat to continue deepening the highlight.
Highlights can stick to any objects they touch, like sticky notes or images, and will move with them around the board.
Edit a highlight
Change color and thickness
You can change a highlight's color and thickness — or stroke weight — at any time.
- With the select tool V active, select one or more highlights on the board.
- Click the color picker to change color, or click to change the stroke weight.

Resize highlight
- Select one or more highlights.
- Drag the handles or sides of its bounding box to resize it.
Straight-lined highlights can only be resized length-wise. Other highlights will resize proportionally.
Delete highlights
To delete a highlight
- Select one or more highlights you want to remove.
- Press Delete or Backspace.
You can also use the eraser tool to delete highlighter strokes.
Washi tape
Add your personality to the board with washi tape. You can use one of FigJam’s designs or upload your own image to create a custom pattern.
To use washi tape:

Click the drawing tools menu and select washi tape or press
W
. - Select a washi tape design or click to upload an image.
- Click and drag on the board where you want to add tape.
Custom patterns are not saved in your washi tape toolbar after closing or refreshing the file’s tab. You’ll need to upload the image again for future use.
Use Figma Design to create a custom, high-resolution washi tape pattern for your boards by giving the image a 224px height.
Eraser tool
To erase highlights and marker doodles:
- Click the drawing tool in the toolbar and select the eraser tool, or press
- Mac: ShiftDelete
- Windows: ShiftDelete or ShiftBackspace
- Click or click and drag over any doodles or highlights you want to remove.
The eraser tool stays active until you select another tool or press Esc.
