Troubleshoot AI tools in Figma
Figma offers the agent in Figma Design as well as dedicated AI tools across its products. Error messages vary by feature, but most issues have the same causes and fixes. Find the message closest to the one you see, then follow the suggested steps.
Common errors and solutions
| Message or issue | What to do |
| Something went wrong, AI features unavailable, or the agent couldn’t complete the request | Try again. If the problem continues, reload the tab or restart the Figma desktop app. |
| You appear to be offline, Couldn’t connect, or a network error appears | Check your internet connection and network settings, then try again. |
| You’ve hit the rate limit or Wait a bit before trying again | Wait a short time, then try again. |
| Try again, with a smaller selection | Reduce the selection, then try again. |
| AI is disabled for your organization | Contact your organization administrator to ask whether AI features can be enabled. |
| Your prompt violates usage guidelines or Blocked—try different input | Revise the prompt to remove unsafe or harmful content, then try again. |
| Your Figma app is out of date or Reload needed | Reload the tab or restart the Figma desktop app, then try again. |
| Limit reached until [date] or Can’t use again until [date] | Wait until the date shown in the error before trying again. |
| No layers need naming | No action is needed. The selected layers already have custom names. |
| Missing a font—couldn’t rewrite | Resolve the missing font, then try again. |
| Couldn’t do that—try adjusting fonts or colors | Adjust the fonts or colors in your selection, or try a different prompt. |
| Content length limit or Attachments too large | Shorten the prompt or use fewer or smaller attachments, then try again. |
| Try again, with a bit less text | Shorten the text, then try again. |
| First, give these layers names | Name the layers you want to use in the prototype, then try again. |
