Who can use this feature
Figma Make is available for Full seats on paid plans.
You can try Figma Make on other seats and plans.
Copying a Figma Make preview as design layers is available on all paid plans.
Note: This feature is rolling out over the next week.
When you're working on your functional prototypes in Figma Make, there are times you'll want to pull a current preview into Figma Design for further editing. Instead of sharing screenshots or rebuilding from scratch, you can copy the preview in your Figma Make file as a collection of design layers. Then, paste those layers onto the canvas in Figma Design where you can edit it with all your familiar design tools.
When you copy a preview as design layers:
- You get a collection of layers that match the current state of the functional prototype or web app you're previewing
- The layers can be modified like any other layer in Figma Design
Bringing in Figma Make previews as layers is a great way to iterate on designs with other teammates. For example, you could copy the different interfaces in your web app one at a time, and then use a Figma Design file as a place to collaborate with others, try out different design ideas, and further edit the designs.
There are a couple things to keep in mind:
- The collection of design layers you copy aren’t connected to the Figma Make file. When you make changes to the layers in Figma Design, you won’t see the same changes in your functional prototype.
- The layers aren’t automatically tied to your design system.
- The layers aren't interactive. The design layers represent a snapshot of the preview in your Figma Make file, but don't provide the same interactions in the context of Figma Design.
Copy a preview
To copy a preview as design layers:
- Open a Figma Make file.
- In the preview of your Figma Make file, get to the state that you want to copy as design layers. For example, a specific page within your interface.
-
At the top of Figma Make, click Copy design.
Depending on the complexity of your design, it may take a minute to convert to layers. Figma Make will indicate when the layers are ready.
- Go to a Figma Design file or create a new one.
- Paste your design layers onto the canvas of your Figma Design file.
Once your layers are pasted onto the canvas of your Figma Design file, you can start making changes and collaborating with others.
