Before you start
Who can use this feature
Starter, Professional, Education, Organization, and Enterprise plans
Requires view access to the file
Requires an MCP client that supports MCP resources
With the Figma MCP server, your agent can get code and other resources from your Figma Make files and reuse them in your codebase. This makes it easier to turn a Make prototype into a production app while keeping the design intent you built in Make.
You can:
- Get context from a Make file, from individual files or the whole project
- Ask your agent to build with your existing code components instead of starting from scratch
- Extend prototypes with real data to test and ship designs faster
Note: This article is about bringing Make content into your own coding tools. To connect other services to Figma Make, see Manage MCP connectors for the Figma agent and Figma Make.
How it works
The Figma MCP server shares Make files with your agent as MCP resources, a standard way for MCP servers to provide files and data to clients. Your agent can see which files are in your Make project and get the ones it needs.
To get resources from a Make file:
- In Figma Make, copy the URL of your Make file from your browser's address bar.
- In your MCP client, paste the link and ask your agent to get context from it.
- Your agent shows you a list of the files in your Make project.
- Choose the files you want your agent to get.
Example: Implement a component from Make
In this example, you want to add a popup to your production app that matches the design and behavior you prototyped in Make.
- Copy the link to your Make file and paste it in your MCP client.
- Prompt your agent: "Get the popup component's behavior and styles from this Make file and implement it using my popup component."
Your agent gets the relevant files from Make, then updates your existing popup component with the prototype's behavior and styles.
Tip: Name the component in your codebase you want your agent to use, so it extends what you already have instead of creating something new.
