Troubleshoot opening links in the Desktop app
If you're not able to open Figma links using the Figma desktop app, you may be encountering one of these issues:
I don’t see Open links in desktop app in the file menu
The Open links in desktop app menu item only appears if you:
- Have the Figma desktop app installed
- Are logged in to the same Figma account in both browser and desktop app
- Currently viewing a Figma or FigJam file from a supported browser, not the desktop app
Possible reasons and solutions
You’re not logged in on the same account
Make sure you’re logged in to Figma using the same Figma account in both the browser and desktop app.
You don’t have the latest version of desktop app installed
Download Figma for desktop:
Confirm you‘re running the latest version of the Figma desktop app:
- Click Figma from the top menu bar on a Mac or on Windows.
- Select Check for Updates.
You should also confirm your device meets the minimum requirements to run the Figma desktop app →
You’re trying to update this setting in the desktop app
You can only update this setting from Figma in the browser, not the desktop app.
- Visit figma.com from a supported browser.
- Log in with the same account you’re using in the desktop app.
- Open any FigJam or Figma design file.
- Click Main menu.
- Select Open in desktop app from the dropdown.
I’m being asked to Get the app but it’s already installed
If you're being asked to install the Figma desktop app but have already done so, it's usually caused by one of the following issues:
Possible reasons and solutions
You’re logged into Figma on different accounts
If your desktop app is signed in to a different account than your browser, you will not see the option to Open in desktop app.
Check that you are logged in to the same account you’re using in the browser. If you’re logged into multiple accounts, you may need to switch between accounts.
You’re using a browser that is blocking the redirect (Brave, Microsoft Edge)
Browsers with strict privacy settings may prevent the Figma desktop app from opening when you open a link to a Figma or FigJam file.
You can get this feature working by adjusting your privacy settings and adding an exception for figma.com
.

Brave: Add an exception for
[figma.com](<http://figma.com>)
to your shield settings. Learn more in Brave’s Help Center → -
Microsoft Edge: Add an exception for figma.com to Strict mode for
Figma.com

I’ve updated the setting, but it still won’t open file links in the app
The link you’re opening isn’t to a Figma design or FigJam file.
Links to other parts of the Figma application aren’t supported, so they won’t open in the desktop app. This includes links to resources in the Community or links to teams, projects, and other areas in the file browser.
