Create marketing assets in Figma Buzz
Project overview
- Product: Figma Buzz
- Topics: Figma Buzz, templates, edit assets, bulk create
- Difficulty: Beginner
- Length: 10 minutes
In this project, we’ll be making assets in Figma Buzz. Our assets will be a set of Instagram ads for an upcoming workshop series we want to promote.
To achieve this, we’ll do the following:
- Create a new Buzz file and insert a template.
- Update the text and image of the template.
- Use bulk create to create multiple assets at once.
Create a new Buzz file and insert a template
To start, you’ll need to create a new Figma Buzz file. To create a new file in your drafts, visit figma.com/buzz/new.
Once you open a new file, you’ll see the template picker. Templates help you quickly create assets from a pre-made design.
There are two type of templates:
- From Figma: A collection of templates curated by the Figma team.
- From your team: Templates made by your team or organization (available on paid plans).
For this project, we’ll use a specific template from Figma for an ad for a clothing repair workshop. We’ll use the template as a starting point, and then customize the text and image for our specific needs.
To add the template to your file:
- On the template picker, select the Ads tab.
- Scroll and search for the Instagram ad template that depicts an advertisement for a clothing repair workshop.
- Hover over the template and click Add template.
Note: If you can’t find the template we’re using, look for “Instagram ad” in the template picker search bar. Alternatively, you can pick a different template and still follow along with the general guidelines in this project.
Update the text and image of the asset
Now that we’ve added the template as an asset in our Buzz file, we want to update the text and image in the asset for our specific use-case.
In Figma Buzz, you can use the Edit content tab on the left navigation bar to directly update text strings and images. This way, you can quickly update text and image fields without needing to touch the design. This is particularly useful if you’re using templates from your team, as you can ensure you’re staying on brand.
Note: Want to directly edit the style and design of your asset on the canvas?
- Select the asset.
- Select Edit content from the left navigation bar.
- In the Text section, click to select a text field, and enter in your personalized text. (For our example, we updated our headline to “Introduction to Creative Writing”.)
- In the Image section, hover over the current image and select Upload image to upload an image file from your computer. (For our example, we replaced the main image of the template with a new image of a person writing at a desk.)
Tip: If you’re on a paid plan, you can try using the Make an image tool to generate new images with AI.
Use bulk create
We’ve created our asset in Figma Buzz, and it’s ready to go! However, we’re planning on creating several other workshop ads that have the same design, but different text strings and images.
We can use bulk create to create multiple assets at the same type, by importing content from a CSV or XLSX file to populate individual fields within each asset. We want to update the workshop title, date, time, and image for each asset.
First, we’ll need to prepare the content we need to import.
Since we’ll be included images in our data, we need to create an XLSX file. Most common spreadsheet programs, such as Google Sheets or Excel, allow you to download spreadsheets in XLSX format.
- Each row of your data file represents a single asset, with the top row as a label.
- When inserting images into your data file, place them directly within a single cell.
Use the table below as an example for how to format your data.
Title | Date | Image |
Introduction to Pottery | May 12th 2025 8am-2pm
Introduction to Piano | May 18th 2025 10am-2pm
Introduction to Painting | May 19th 2025 11am-3pm |
Tip: For this project, we’ve only included four pieces of data in our file. However, bulk create can support creating 100+ assets at the same time, so you’re welcome to try adding even more data to the sample!
Once you’ve created and saved your XLSX file, you’re ready to use bulk create.
- Select the asset we’ve already created.
- Click Bulk create from the left navigation bar.
- Click Upload, then select the XLSX file you’ve created. Once uploaded, you’ll see a list of your uploaded data fields (by column title) in the left sidebar.
- Select a text or image layer on your asset, then select the corresponding data field from the left sidebar. Once a layer is correctly linked to a data field, the data field will be marked with a check and highlighted pink.
- Click the workshop title on the asset, then click the corresponding field on the left sidebar.
- Click the workshop time and date on the asset, then click the corresponding field on the left sidebar.
- Click the image on the asset, then click the corresponding field on the left sidebar.
- Click Create assets.
