Templates in Figma Make are a great way for you to riff on functional prototypes and web apps in your organization while staying consistent with brand styling and functionality.
Figma Make templates are created and published by people in your team or organization. Templates include styles, functionality, and guidelines set by the person who published the template. Because of the way guidelines are implemented in templates, you can be confident remixing the Figma Make file without making unintended changes to parts of the design and functionality.
Why use a template?
Suppose someone in your organization has been working hard on a prototype in Figma Make. They want to preserve the milestone they've reached in that file, but also share it with you so you can experiment with it. To scale that prototype to you in a way that's easy for you to find, copy, and remix, they create a template.
In the template, the creator gives Figma Make guidelines for what can be changed with further prompting by the people using it. Based on the guidelines they provide, you may be able to add new tabs, panels, or shift content around inside the interface without worrying about making additional changes to the styling or architecture. Or maybe you want people to be able to riff on all kinds of changes to the functionality, but you don’t want to make changes to the brand styling they've worked hard to implement. In both cases, the template and its guidelines help ensure that you can head toward exciting outcomes while maintaining the consistency.
Use a template
There are two ways to start with a template in Figma Make.
When you first create a Figma Make file, you can select select templates available in your teams or organization under the prompt box.
You can also browse and use templates in the resources for your teams or organization:
- On the right side of the file browser, click Resources.
- On the Resources page, click Make templates to view all of the available templates for your team or organization.
- Click the template you want to use in Figma Make.
When you select a template, it opens in Figma Make. You can immediately get started remixing by editing the template as you would any other Figma Make file.
