Edit a vector object
This article is available for both the previous Figma UI and the new Figma UI. Use the toggle at the bottom left of the page to select your current UI. Get to know UI3: Figma’s redesign →
You can edit any vector object on the canvas. This includes shapes you add, or drawings made with the Pen tool.
Enter edit mode
With a shape or drawing selected, click Edit object in the properties panel to quickly enter vector edit mode. You can also double-click the object, or press Enter.
Editing an object
When editing, you can interact with the existing points of the object and the lines between them. You can:
- Use the Pen tool to plot additional points, or move the existing points around
- Use the Bend tool to activate beziers to curve the lines
- Use the Paint Bucket tool to add a fill to the shape

About Edit Mode
You can create shapes using the Pen Tool, or you can use the shape tool to drag out an image on the canvas.
Once you've drawn a shape, use the Edit Object button in the toolbar to quickly enter vector edit mode. You can also double-click, or use Enter .
The Pen Tool
When you're editing an object, you can interact with the existing points and the lines between them. You can also use the Pen Tool to plot additional points and manipulate those as well.
Paths between the points can be straight lines, or you can curve them using the Bend Tool to activate Beziers.
To turn the handle controls on, while clicking, use the modifier key:
- macOS: Command
- Windows: Control
