Who can use this feature
Starter, Professional, Education (not K-12), Organization, and Enterprise plans
Requires edit access to the file
With Figma AI, you can create and edit vector illustrations and icon sets. Use it to generate new vectors, make precise edits, or convert static images into editable vector layers. Work on one vector at a time or run multiple tasks at once, even while switching frames or continuing to design elsewhere.
Note: Figma AI uses a credit system that is shared across all Figma AI features and products, including some tools mentioned in this article. Learn more about how AI credits work.
Generate vectors with the Figma agent
The Figma agent can generate vector illustrations and icon sets that match your style, are made up of editable strokes and fills, and have a well-organized layer structure. Start from scratch with a descriptive prompt, or add reference images to shape the output. As the agent works, you can watch the vectors take shape live on the canvas. Convert static images to vector layers
Vectorize image lets you turn static images, such as hand-drawn symbols, lettering, and illustrations, into editable vector layers with Figma AI.
Vectorize an image
To convert a raster image into vector artwork:
- Select an image layer.
- Vectorize the image. Depending on the complexity of the image, the vectorization process may take a few seconds.
- In Figma Design, Figma Draw, or Figma Slides: In the secondary toolbar, click More and then select Vectorize.
- In Figma Buzz: From the inline toolbar, click Edit > Vectorize.
- Once the image is converted, use the Recolor settings to refine the artwork:
- Full color: Retains the colors of the original image. Use the Number of colors setting to specify the number of colors used in the vectorized artwork.
- Grayscale: Converts the image to shades of gray. Use the Number of grays setting to specify the number of grays used in the vectorized artwork.
- Black and white: Converts the image to a two-tone vector using only black and white. Use the Threshold setting to control which parts of your artwork become black or white.
- Click the checkmark in the secondary toolbar to save your changes.
Note: Complex or low-resolution images may not vectorize well. Using Remove background or Boost resolution before vectorizing may improve your results.
