Before you start
Who can use this feature
Available for Education teams
Not available for K-12 organizations
You can create a join link for a folder to invite a whole class at once, without adding students one email address at a time. Anyone who joins through the link gets access to that folder only.
Note: Starting August 3, 2026, projects are being transitioned to folders, with the rollout reaching all users over the next few weeks. Your content and access will remain the same. If you don’t have access to this feature yet on the Education plan, you should within a few weeks.
Why use a folder join link
A team join link adds people to your entire team. In a classroom, that may be more access than you want: students can see every folder in the team, and they can create top-level folders alongside your course material.
By using folder join links, students join the folder with either view or edit access, without having access to the rest of the content in your team. When a student joins a folder, they will inherit access to any nested folders inside that folder.
Note: This feature is currently only available for education teams. On Figma’s regular paid plans, you can prevent users from creating top-level folders in your team by giving then a View seat.
Create a folder join link
To create a folder join link:
- In the file browser, open the folder you want to share.
- Click Share to open the share modal.
- Under Who has access, click the row showing the parent access (e.g. "People from…"). For nested folders, this will be the name of the parent folder. For top-level folders, this will be the name of the team or plan.
- Under Advanced, select Invite people in bulk with a unique link.
- Figma generates the link. Use the dropdown next to the link to set what people can do when they join:
- can view: they can open and comment on files in the folder. They can't edit files or create subfolders.
- can edit: they can edit files in the folder and create subfolders inside it.
- Click Copy to copy the link.
- Click Save.
Note: Students who join through a folder join link become limited access members of your plan. You'll see a Limited access label next to their name in your team members list. Learn more about limited access members.
Manage an existing join link
Folder join links expire after 90 days. Once a link expires, it stops working and you'll need to reset it to invite anyone new.
To reset a folder join link:
- Open the share modal of the folder, and open the share settings.
- Click Refresh to reset the link.
When you reset a link, students who already joined keep their access—only the link changes.
To stop new people from joining the folder, clear the Invite people in bulk with a unique link checkbox. If you turn the checkbox back on, it generates a brand new link.
