Folders help you organize your files. You can color-code them, control who can access their contents, and on paid plans, nest them up to ten levels deep.
On the Professional, Organization, or Enterprise plan, you can create unlimited folders.
On the Starter plan, you can only have one folder. This means you need to delete a folder before you can create another one.
Note: Starting August 3, 2026, projects are being transitioned to folders, with the rollout reaching all users over the next few weeks. Your content and access will remain the same.

Folder permissions
When you share a folder, you choose what that person can do with the files inside it. Nested folders inherit access from their parent folder by default—so if someone has access to a parent folder, they automatically have access to its nested folders too.
For a full breakdown of folder permission types and how they interact with team and organization-level access, see File and folder permissions.
