Who can use this feature
Supported on any team or plan.
Applies to both Figma design and FigJam files.
Anyone with can view access to a file in a team can request to edit it, with the exception of viewer-restricted role.
Anyone with can edit access or owner access to a file in a team can deny or approve a request to edit a file.
Whether you're looking to make quick edits or you're joining as a main collaborator in a Figma design or FigJam file, you'll need
can edit access to make changes.
If you only have
can view access to a file, you can request to edit the file in Figma and the owner will be notified of your request. The file owner and editors can view and approve your request to edit. This eliminates the need to track down people to give you access, making it a more efficient and less disruptive process.
Request to edit a file
If you open a file within a team where you have
can view permissions, you can ask to edit the file by clicking Ask to edit in the toolbar.
Figma will notify the file owner via email and in-app notifications of your request and be given the option to grant you access.
If your request is approved, you'll receive an email and in-app notification, and can start editing the file right away.
Note: Anyone with a viewer-restricted role won't be able to request to edit a file. If you have this role in an Organization, you can request to upgrade your role.
Approve or deny a request
can edit or
owner access to a file in a team can deny or approve edit requests.
If there are pending requests in a file, a red badge will appear on the share button in the toolbar.
Click the share button to view the requests. The share modal will open, and you'll have the option to deny or approve the requests.
owner access to a file will also be notified of any requests to edit in the following places and be given the option to approve or deny:
- Email message
- File browser via the notification bell
