Before you start you should know
- FigJam is Figma's new digital whiteboarding tool.
- Anyone with can edit access in a FigJam file can change colors.
Color is a valuable tool that can be used in FigJam to visually communicate your ideas. FigJam comes with default color palettes depending on the object it is applied to.
Sticky notes have a set palette of colors:
- Light gray #D9D9D9
- Stone #667799
- Blue #0D99FF
- Violet #9747FF
- Pink #FF24BD
- Red #F24822
- Orange #FFA629
- Yellow #FFCD29
- Green #14AE5C
- Teal #00A1C2
The highlighter tool’s palette includes:

Shapes, sections, marker doodles, and connectors have their own color palette.

Apply colors to objects
Once an object is selected and you would like to modify its color, you can select the Color dropdown from the toolbar:
Selecting multiple objects with mixed colors and changing the color of the new selection will override any previously applied colors.
Modifying the color of a sticky note on the board will change the default color of the Sticky note tool in the toolbar. It does not affect the color of pre-existing stickies.
The new default color will be applied to all future sticky notes until the color is changed again.

You can change the color and opacity of shapes in FigJam.
To set the color of a shape before placing it:
- From the toolbar, click the chevron next to the shape icon.
- Select a color from the default color palette.
- Click anywhere on the board to place the shape.
Once the shape is on the board, select it to open the toolbar. From the color picker in the toolbar, you can:
- Set the shape fill to Fill, No Fill, or Transparent
- Select the Custom option to set a custom color and opacity level
Modifying the color of a shape on the board changes the default color of the Shape tool in the toolbar. It does not affect the color of shapes already on the board.
Just like sticky notes, the new default color will be applied to all future shapes until the color is changed again.
When a shape's fill property is removed, the shape border is still shown. The border color of a shape cannot be modified independently of the shape's color.

Changing the color of a connector will change the background color of the connector text when the Text background property is applied.
The new default color will be applied to all future connectors until the color is changed again.
Text colors within a sticky note, shape or connector cannot be modified.

Unlike the text in shapes, stickies and connectors, text created with the Text tool can take on different colors. However, changing the color of one text object will not apply the same styling to future text objects.
Attempting to change the color of a substring within a text object will modify all text color in the same object. The default color for a new text object is always Charcoal.

You can change the stroke color of the marker and highlighter tools by clicking it in the toolbar and selecting a color from the palette:
The stroke color can also be modified after drawing by selecting the stroke and choosing a color from the toolbar.

Use the eyedropper tool
The eyedropper tool allows you to select and sample colors from any object or image on the board board. Use the eyedropper to identify colors and apply them to your objects.
- Select the object you'd like to edit.
- Click the color picker and select the gradient option.
- Select the eyedropper tool.
- Hover over the color in the canvas you'd like to sample. The magnifier window will show you both the color and hex code of the sampled pixel.
