About published template permissions
Publish templates to a team
After you’re done drafting your template, you’ll need to move it to a project within a team before publishing. You can only publish a template to the team where the template’s source file currently lives. If you want the template to be available in another team, you can either move the file to that team or save a copy of the file to your computer and import it to the team before publishing.
Note: Professional plan users are limited to publishing five templates per team.
Keep in mind that team and project sharing permissions impact who can access published templates. Users must be members of the team and have permission to access the project where the template is published. If the template is in a project set to Only invited people can access, only team members invited to the project will be able to access the template. If members of your team are unable to find published templates, you may need to modify the project’s permission settings. Learn more about managing project permissions →
Publish templates to an organization
Organization and Enterprise plan users can also publish templates to an organization. If the template source file’s sharing permissions are too restrictive, Figma Slides will automatically update them when you publish the template.
For example, if the file is set to Only invited people can access and you choose to publish the template to an organization, Figma Slides will update the file’s permissions to give organization members access to the file.
Keep in mind that changing the file’s sharing permissions in the future may result in organization members losing access to the template.
Publish a template
- Open the slide deck you want to publish as a template.
- Click Share in the right sidebar to open the Share modal.
- Click Publish template. If the slide deck is in your drafts, you’ll be prompted to move it to a project.
- If your template has more than one template style, select which style you want to use for your template. Published templates can only have one template style. Learn more about template styles →
- Enter a name, description, and optional custom thumbnail for your template.
- Choose to publish the template to either your current team or your entire organization.
- Click Publish.
Edit a published template
- Open the original slide deck template.
- Make your changes to the template.
- Click Publish changes on the banner at the top of the page.
- Edit the template details, then click Publish updates.
Published changes only apply to new slide decks that are made with the template.
Unpublish a template
- Open the original slide deck template.
- Click on the dropdown menu next to the file name.
- Hover over Manage template and select Unpublish template.
- Click Unpublish to confirm.
The template will no longer appear in the template picker for your team or organization. Existing slides that use the template will not be impacted but new slides cannot be added from the template.
Note: Moving the original slide deck template back to your drafts will also unpublish the template.
Disable custom templates
Organization admins can prevent members from publishing custom templates.Â
- Open the file browser.
- Select Admin in the sidebar.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Scroll down to the Other section, then turn off the Template publishing toggle.
Custom slide deck templates created in your organization will no longer be displayed in the template picker. If you decide to re-enable custom templates, previously created templates will be restored to the template picker.
