Who can use this feature
Available on the Organization and Enterprise plans
Teams are shared spaces for organizing and collaborating on folders and files. Within an organization, you can create or join multiple teams.
How team visibility works
When a team is created, the team owner sets who in the organization can access it.
- Open to the organization: Any organization member can view the team and its content without explicitly joining. Access level is set by the team owner.
- Open to a workspace: Any member of that workspace can view the team and its content without explicitly joining. [Enterprise only]
-
Only those invited: The team is restricted. These teams are either Visible or Hidden:
- Visible teams appear in the file browser and search results. Any organization member can find them, but must be invited or approved to access content.
- Hidden teams don't appear in the file browser or search results. You can only join if a current member invites you.
Note: Organization admins can see all teams—including hidden ones—from the Admin panel. They can also view hidden team activity, including members and file names, in the organization's activity logs.
Guests can only view teams they've been directly invited to.
Find teams in the file browser
You can search for teams by name using the search bar, or browse all available teams:
- Open the file browser by logging in to your account at figma.com.
- If you’re in a file, click the Figma menu > Back to files.
- Navigate to a list of all teams:
- On the Organization plan or Enterprise plan without workspaces enabled, select All teams from the left sidebar.
- On the Enterprise plan with workspaces enabled, select All workspaces from the left sidebar. Select a workspace to view its teams.
You'll only see teams whose visibility settings allow you to find them.
Join a team
Join an open team
If a team is open to your organization or workspace, you don't need to do anything to join—you already have access. Your specific permissions (view or edit) are set by the team owner.
Request to join a visible team
Visible teams show a lock icon in the file browser. You can find them by browsing or searching, but you'll need approval from a team admin to access their content.
To request access:
- Open the file browser by logging in to your account at figma.com.
- If you’re in a file, click the Figma menu > Back to files.
- Search for a team from the search bar, or navigate to a list of all teams:
- On the Organization plan or Enterprise plan without workspaces enabled, select All teams from the left sidebar.
- On the Enterprise plan with workspaces enabled, select All workspaces from the left sidebar. Select a workspace to view teams in that workspace.
- Click Ask to join on the team card.
- Use the dropdown menu to choose
can vieworcan editaccess. - (Optional) Add any notes or information to give the team admin some context.
- Click Request access.
Figma will notify all admins of the team. You’ll be granted access only after an admin approves your request.
To cancel a request or change your access level, click Cancel request on the team card.
Join a hidden team
Hidden teams don't appear in the file browser. To join one, a current team member must invite you directly. Only admins and members with Can edit access can send invitations.
Accept an invitation
If you've been directly invited to a team, you can accept in two ways:
- From the invitation email: Click Accept to open Figma and join the team.
- From the file browser: Click the notifications icon to view pending invitations, then click Accept.
