Who can use this feature
Available on all plans
Teams are dedicated spaces within an organization for organizing and collaborating on files.
Organization and Enterprise plans support an unlimited number of teams. These plans have permission settings that impact how others in the organization can access and manage teams.
Starter and Professional plans each include a single team, which are managed by admins on those plans.
Team permissions
Team permissions define what actions someone can take at the team level—like creating folders, inviting members, or changing team settings.
Select your plan to see how team permissions work.
Starter and Professional plans each consist of a single team. The actions individuals can take depends on their role: full members, limited access members, and admins.
The table below outlines which team actions are available for users on the Starter and Professional plans.
| Action | Full member | Limited access member | Admin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invite others to the team | (can only invite others to join with a View seat) | ||
| Create folders |
Limited access members
cannot create top level folders. They can create nested folders if they have edit access to the parent folder. |

| Delete team |
*Note: To delete a file or folder, you need edit access to the resource itself and edit access to the folder or team it lives in — either through a direct invite or inherited permissions.
- For files and nested folders, that means having an editor role on the containing folder.
- For top-level folders, that means being a full member of the team.
On the Organization and Enterprise plans, any member of a team is given
can view or can edit permissions on that team.
In addition to can view and can edit permissions,
a
team member can be an owner or an admin:
- Admin: Admins have extra administrative rights within the team. They can manage any team settings, including shared libraries.
- Owner: Every team, folder, or file has an owner. There is only one owner per team. The owner is the person that created the team, but ownership can also be transferred.
The table below outlines which team actions are available for each permission level:
| Action | Can view | Can edit | Team admin/Owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invite others to the team | With can view permissions only | ||

Inherited permissions from team to folder

- John has
can editteam permissions on the Produce team and is givencan editaccess to Fruit Folder by default. - Jeanie has
can viewteam permissions on the Produce team. She is givencan viewaccess to Fruit Folder by default.
You can override someone's inherited permissions by editing their permissions on that file or folder. Learn more about file and folder permissions.
Example
James has can view permissions on the Produce team. His manager, Vanessa, invites him to a specific file within that team with can edit access.
With explicit edit access to the file, James is able to make edits to that file. He only has can view access to other files and folders in that team.
Team permission FAQs
Seats are separate from permissions.
In Figma, a person's seat determines which Figma products they have access to. For example, a user with a Collab seat has access to FigJam and Figma Slides.
Permissions determine which files, folders, and teams they can edit.
For a user to be able to edit a file, they need both the appropriate seat and permissions.
No, team permissions do not impact your subscription or bill. Your bill is determined by your plan and the number of paid seats you purchase.
