AI credits are used to run AI actions in Figma.
On the Education plan, AI credits:
- Are assigned to each person (they are not shared across teammates)
- Reset monthly and don’t roll over
Education plan users get 3,000 AI credits per month. Once you hit your credit limit, you are unable to use AI features that require credits until your limit resets, or you move to a plan that gives you more options for additional credits.
Tip: To learn more about how AI credits work or the Education plan, see:
Check your AI credit balance
You can view your remaining AI credits at any time.
- Open the Main menu in any file.
- Select the AI balance option to see how many credits you’ve used, how many credits you have remaining, and when they’ll reset.
How to get more AI credits
If you reach your monthly credit limit, you won’t be able to run additional AI actions until one of the following happens:
- Your credits reset on your next monthly reset date, or
- You move to a plan that gives you more options for additional credits
Upgrading to a paid Professional team can help because:
- Upgrading resets your credit limit, giving you a fresh set of included credits. On the Professional plan, Full seats include 3,000 credits per month. Other seats include 500 credits per month.
- Paid plans will have additional credit purchasing options available starting on March 11, 2026.

Upgrade process for Education users
There are two ways to move from the Education plan to a paid Professional plan. The right option depends on whether you need to keep collaborating with other Education users.
- If you want to keep your Education team for collaboration, create a new, separate Professional team and move specific files to it.
- If you work solo and don’t need to collaborate with other Education users, you can upgrade your existing Education team to a paid Professional plan.
Create a new team
To create a new, paid Professional plan team:
- Visit https://www.figma.com/files/create-team to create a new team.
- Upgrade that team to the Professional plan.
- Move any file(s) to the new Professional team.

You can keep your Education team active for collaboration with other Education users and move only the files you want to continue working on with AI to your Professional team.

If you belong to multiple teams, you can switch between them by clicking the team name in the file browser sidebar.
Upgrade your existing Education team
If you don’t need to collaborate with other Education users, you may prefer to upgrade your existing Education team directly to a paid Professional team.
Before you upgrade, keep in mind:
- You can’t mix free Education members and paid non-Education members on the same Professional team.
- After upgrading, other Education members won’t be able to collaborate on that team for free.
To upgrade your team to a paid plan, see Upgrade or downgrade your plan.
Note: If you’d like to change from a Professional team back to an Education team, you’ll need to downgrade your plan to the free Starter plan. At the end of your billing period, Figma will downgrade your team to a free Starter team. You can then upgrade your Starter team to an Education team again.
