Manage public link sharing
Who can use this feature
Disable public links is supported on the Organization and Enterprise plans. Requiring passwords for all public links is only supported on the Enterprise plan.
Only organization admins can update organization admin settings.
Organization admins can control the organization’s public link sharing settings. This applies to FigJam files, Figma design files, and prototype links.
Public link sharing settings only apply to people without an existing role on the team, project, or file. You can view a public file without a Figma account, but to comment or edit you’ll need to log in.
There are three options available:
- Allow public links
- Require passwords Enterprise plan
- Disable public links
Figma tracks any changes to an organization’s public link sharing settings in the organization’s activity logs. This also includes changes to the link sharing settings of individual files.
Note: You can use open sessions in FigJam regardless of the organization’s public link sharing settings. You can also add password protection to FigJam files with an open session.
Allow public links
Public links are a great way to share resources with a large group of people. Especially if you’re collaborating with people both inside and outside the organization.
- Share prototype links with a usability testing platform
- Present designs to a group of external clients
- Make organization resources available to the general public, like style guides and design systems
- Run trainings, workshops, and sessions with people outside the organization
The default setting for every organization is to allow public links. It’s not possible to create public links with can edit access, even with this setting enabled. Public links only have two access levels:
- Can view: gives view only access to the file. People can still view and inspect layers and properties in the file, as well as view prototype flows and connections in the editor and presentation view. They can also use collaborative features in design and FigJam files like comments, cursor chat, audio, and emotes.
- Can view prototypes only (Figma design): gives access to the prototypes in that file, but not the underlying pages in the file. This is only available for Figma design files and when setting explicit permissions.
Require password protection Enterprise plan
You may need to share files with a group of people outside your team or organization. For example: presenting designs to an external client, or running a training or workshop.
Password protection gives you an added layer of security when sharing files outside the organization. Even with the link, people won’t be able to see the file’s contents until they enter the password.
On the Enterprise plan, organization admins can require passwords for public links. If anyone wants to share public files, they'll need to add a password to the file.
- Open the organization in Figma.
- Click Admin settings in the sidebar:
- Click Settings in the menu bar:
- In the External access section, select Public link sharing.
- Select Allow public links with password protection.
- Select Save to apply your changes.
Once set, organization members can select Anyone with the link and password in the file’s Share modal. Add password protection to files →
Disable public links
If you don’t want to people to be able to share public links to files and prototypes, you can disable public links. This removes the Anyone with the link setting in the file’s share modal.
Note: This doesn’t prevent members and guests from inviting specific guests to organization files. People with an existing role on the file, project, or team can still access files via their link.
If you’re on the Enterprise plan, you can restrict or prevent guest access. This allows you to require admin approval for new guests, or prevent guest access entirely.
- Open the organization in Figma.
- Click Admin settings in the sidebar:
- Click Settings in the menu bar:
- In the External access section, select Public link sharing.
- Select Don’t allow public links.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
Once set, people won’t have the option for Anyone with the link in the share modal of any FigJam or Figma design files.
