Figma AI helps you explore ideas, create and refine content, and spend less time on repetitive tasks.
There are many ways to use AI in Figma. The examples below give you a general idea of what each feature can help you do. Many workflows overlap, and you can combine tools as you explore and refine your work.
| What is it? | What might you use it for? | |
|---|---|---|
| The Figma agent | A conversational AI tool you can work with directly in Figma files | Generate and edit designs, use and document your design system, get feedback |
| Figma Make | A prompt-to-app tool for creating functional prototypes and web apps from prompts or existing designs | Build and refine and interactive app or prototype in its own Figma Make file |
| Code layers | Layers that run working code on the Figma Design canvas, alongside your design | Try interactive ideas and compare working prototypes in the same design file |
| Individual AI tools | Focused AI features built into Figma products for specific tasks | Complete a specific task, such as rewriting copy, editing a single image, or summarizing sticky notes |
Tip: Work with Figma from other AI tools
You can use the Figma MCP server to connect Figma to AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Give your AI tool design context to help generate code, or ask it to create and update designs in Figma.
You can use Figma AI across different Figma products as a part of your workflow for each stage of the development process. For example, you might:
- Explore your ideas with AI in FigJam: Generate a board, then sort and summarize the team’s sticky notes to identify themes and next steps
- Use AI to develop designs in Figma Design: Ask the agent to generate a screen using your team’s library, then create a code layer to try an interaction alongside your designs
- Build a functional prototype in Figma Make: Start from a prompt, existing design, or repo, then refine the prototype to test an idea with your team
- Build a presentation in Figma Slides: Turn a FigJam board into a starting point for your deck, adjust the copy for your audience, and draft presenter notes
Learn more about each feature and who can use it below. You’ll also find guidance on why you might not have access to AI features and best practices when using AI tools.
Work with the Figma agent
The Figma agent is a conversational AI tool you collaborate with in Figma files.
You can describe what you want in plain language, and the agent will generate designs, make edits, apply your design system, give feedback, and handle busywork. Work with the agent directly in the canvas.
Tip: Use the agent to create custom plugins, shaders and add motion to your design
You can use AI to build your own reusable plugins or shaders directly in Figma by prompting the Figma agent. Plugins are canvas capabilities that you can create and customize to suit your unique workflow needs.

You can also use the agent to generate animations and add motion to your design files.

Who can use the Figma agent?
The Figma agent is available on Starter, Professional, Organization, Enterprise, and Education plans. Education plan access is limited to higher education and bootcamp users.
The agent is available in Figma Design. Access in FigJam and Figma Slides is currently limited to participants in the closed beta.
Your seat and file access determine how you can work with the agent:
- In shared files: Users with Full seats and edit access can chat with the agent and ask it to make edits. Users with Dev, Collab, or View seats—or view-only access—can ask the agent questions, but can’t use it to edit the file.
- In Drafts: Anyone can chat with the agent and ask it to make edits in their own draft files
Explore interactive ideas with code layers
Code layers bring working code onto the Figma Design canvas, alongside your designs. Start with a prompt or an existing design to create an interactive prototype, then try it directly on the canvas.
Use code layers to explore how an idea behaves, compare different approaches, and refine an interaction with your team. You can duplicate a code layer to try another direction and keep the alternatives next to each other.
You can work with the Figma agent to create and refine code layers as part of your design workflow.
Learn more about using code layers.
Who can use code layers?
Code layers are available on Starter, Professional, Organization, Enterprise, and Education plans. Education plan access is limited to higher education and bootcamp users.
Code layers are available in Figma Design and is currently in open beta.
Your seat determines how you can use code layers:
- Full seats: Full access
- Dev, Collab, and View seats: Can explore code layers in drafts
Build with Figma Make
Figma Make is a code editor for prototyping on your codebase or from scratch. Start with a prompt or an existing design, then work in a dedicated Figma Make file to preview and refine the result.
Describe changes in the chat, use the editing tools and annotations to adjust specific elements, or edit the code directly.
Use Figma Make to:
- Preview the look and feel of your designs in a functional form
- Turn proposals and ideas into prototypes to help hone your product approach
- Explore a variety of solutions for a problem you're trying to solve
Tip: Figma Make and code layers both let you create with AI-generated code. In Figma Make, you work in a dedicated file and can publish your app as a website. With code layers, you can explore interactive ideas alongside designs on the Figma Design canvas.
Who can use Figma Make?
Figma Make is available on Starter (with limitations), Professional, Organization, Enterprise, Education, and Government plans. Education plan access is limited to higher education and bootcamp users.
Your seat determines which features you can use:
- Full seats: Full access
- Dev seats: Can explore Figma Make in Drafts and export code from Figma Make files.
- Collab and View seats: Can explore Figma Make in Drafts.

Best practices when using AI tools
When it comes to building AI, we want to be transparent about what we’re doing and what this means for you. Learn more about Figma’s approach to AI.
There are a few things to keep in mind when using any AI tool:
Accuracy
AI-powered tools are designed to provide information and results based on artificial intelligence algorithms, and identify patterns and relationships from large amounts of data. It’s important to note that the accuracy and reliability of these results may vary.
There is a possibility of inaccuracies, omissions, or misleading outcomes due to the complexities and limitations of AI technologies. Therefore, the information provided by the tool should be regarded as a general reference and not a fact or a substitute for expert advice or your own research.
Your responsibilities
- You should exercise your own judgment and discretion when using AI-powered tools. It’s essential to verify and cross-check the information provided by the tool before making any decisions, taking actions, or relying on it for critical matters.
- You should let others know when you’re using or presenting AI-generated outputs. For some features, like summarize stickies, Figma will indicate when an output is AI-generated.
- You will only use AI features in accordance with Figma’s Acceptable Use Policy.
