Updates to Figma's pricing, seats, and billing experience
Overview
We will be making the following changes to our pricing, seats, and billing experience. These changes will take effect starting on March 11, 2025, and will include:
- Increased pricing for Figma Design—see section below for details.
- More functionality with every seat—all paid seats will include access to FigJam and Figma Slides, making it easier for everyone to collaborate.
- Re-architecture of our billing model—we are moving away from user-driven upgrades and giving admins upfront approval over seat upgrades by default. Approved seats will be added to your next invoice and prorated from the day of approval.

Increased pricing for Figma Design
Starting from your next subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025, the price of Figma Design will increase:
Our free Starter plan will continue to be available. Prices reflected above are in USD. If you pay for Figma today using a different currency, you can view the updated pricing in that currency in the FAQ section below.
New pricing will go into effect at your first subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025, unless otherwise stated in your Admin settings.
For example, if you are on an annual subscription that renews on October 15, 2025, the new pricing will go into effect on that date.
You can find out when your annual subscription started or renewed by following the steps below:
- From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
- Click Billing.
- Review the banner at the top of the page which includes the date that pricing will increase for your plan.
Any renewals that happen before March 11, 2025 will be treated exactly as they would today, with Figma’s current billing and pricing.
Below, you can see the cost of a Full seat in the non-USD currencies we currently support. New prices will go into effect at your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025. You will continue to pay in the currency that you currently pay in today.

Figma’s AI features are currently free while in beta, but usage limits may apply. They will become paid when they are generally available, and we’ll update you before that happens.
We’ve heard from many of our users in the freelancer and agency communities that our plans don’t support your needs. As a follow-up to our billing model changes, we’ll be releasing a new feature in 2025 that allows for connected projects between Figma plans. Within a connected project, you and your clients will be able to seamlessly create and co-edit files using your existing Figma seats, resolving the need for multiple licenses.
More functionality with every seat
Currently, each user needs a seat for each Figma product they use.
Beginning March 11, 2025, each user will have a single seat that gives them access to more functionality. This means admins will only need to manage one seat per user.
New seat | What's included |
---|---|
Full |

|
Current
For each Figma product, you assign a seat type that determines the types of actions a user can take: Full, Viewer, or Viewer-restricted.
For example: Jules is a designer in your organization who needs edit access to Figma Design and FigJam. You purchase two paid seats for Jules—one for each product.
Future
You assign a single seat per person. The seat gives access to multiple Figma products.
For example: since Jules needs edit access to Figma Design and FigJam, you would purchase one Full seat. This seat will give them edit access to both products, as well as Figma Slides and Dev Mode.
When will the new seat types go into effect?
The new seat structure will roll out to all plans on—or soon after—March 11, 2025. Your bill will not be affected until your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.
How will seats migrate to the new model?
Figma will migrate your current seats to the new seats. You will have the opportunity to make adjustments prior to your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.
Current | Future |
Paid Figma Design seat | Full seat |
Paid Dev Mode seat | Dev seat |
Paid FigJam seat | Collab seat |
Free viewer or viewer-restricted seat in all products | View seat |
If a user currently has more than one paid seat, they’ll switch to the new multi-product seat that gives them the same functionality they have today. For example:
- David has a Figma Design seat and a FigJam seat. They’ll automatically switch to a Full seat to preserve their access to both products.
- Tori has a Dev Mode seat and a FigJam seat. They’ll automatically switch to the Dev seat to preserve their access to both products.
What if I use SCIM to manage seats?
If you’re on the Enterprise plan and manage seats via SCIM, your account manager will be in touch to help you with the transition. If you don’t have an account manager, reach out to Figma Support for assistance.
Seat upgrade and approval flows
Currently, seat upgrades are driven by user actions and admins have the ability to review them afterwards, before their next bill.
Beginning March 11, 2025, new seat approval settings will give admins upfront control when a new seat is requested.
For each seat type, admins can choose from the following seat approval settings:
- Manually approve seats: All seat upgrade requests must be manually approved by an admin.
- Manually approve, unless seat is available (default): People who request a paid seat are automatically granted one if it is available. A seat is available if it has been purchased in advance, but no one is assigned to it.
- Auto-approve seats: All seat upgrade requests are automatically granted. If there are no seats available, a new seat will be purchased.
To ensure users aren’t blocked from collaborating while admins review their seat request, they’ll be able to use the functionality of the seat they requested temporarily for up to three days. During that time, they can create new files and edit any files where their teammates have given them edit access. The temporary access ends immediately if the request is denied or expires.
Example
Julian and Jesse work for Acme Inc.
Julian, who already has full access to Figma Design, shares a design file with Jesse to get their input on some designs.
Jesse has a free viewer seat. Today, if Jesse edits the file Julian sent them, they’ll get upgraded to a paid seat.
With the new model, Jesse will need to request a Full seat. Depending on the settings that Acme has set for Full seats in their organization, Jesse will be automatically assigned a Full seat or will get temporary access for 3 days while an admin reviews their request.
When do the new seat upgrade and approval settings go into effect?
The new seat upgrade and approval settings will roll out to all Figma customers on—or shortly after—March 11, 2025. This will not affect how you are billed until your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.
What does it mean for a seat to be ‘available’?
The new default seat approval setting is Manually approve, unless seat is available.
A seat is available if it has been purchased in advance, but no one is currently assigned to it. For example:
- When someone leaves your team or organization, their seat will become available for someone else to use.
- If someone switches to a different seat type, their current one becomes available.
- If you’ve pre-purchased seats at the beginning of a subscription term, but no one is using them yet.
What will the default approval setting be in March 2025?
When the new upgrade experience is released in March, requests for all paid seats will default to the setting: Manually approve, unless seat is available.
Admins will have the ability to adjust approval settings to be more restrictive or flexible by seat type based on their needs.
For customers on an ELA, requests for all paid seats will default to the Auto-approve seats setting.
Prorated billing
We are also moving to a licensing model where approved seats will be added to your next invoice, prorated from the day of approval through the end of your subscription period.
These changes will go into effect at your first subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025.
How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Professional plan with monthly billing
Once a seat is approved, it will be automatically added to your next invoice. The cost of the seat will be prorated based on the day it was approved until the end of your subscription term.
Example
Jenny requests a Full seat 3 days before the next monthly invoice and an admin approves it.
In this scenario, the invoice will include:
- A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Full seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
- A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.
- Charges for next month’s usage for any other seats on the team.
How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Professional plan with annual billing
If you add new paid seats to your team during an annual subscription, Figma charges you a separate monthly subscription for those seats.
- When you begin or renew an annual subscription, you purchase a set number of paid seats for the year.
- When you add extra paid seats throughout your annual subscription term, we’ll charge you a monthly subscription for just those seats. This helps you manage the cost of Figma if you have a portion of users who only need to pay for Figma for a short time.
Once a seat is approved, it will be automatically added to your next monthly invoice. The cost of the seat will be prorated based on the day it was approved until the end of your current monthly billing term.
You will continue to get monthly invoices for newly added seats unless you proactively add those seats to your annual subscription or remove the seats.
Example
Acme Inc. has an annual subscription with 10 Full seats. These annual seats use annual pricing.
Jenny joins Acme Inc. on April 27 and an admin approves a Full seat for her. All existing annual seats are already in use, so Acme needs to purchase another seat.
In this scenario, Acme will get an invoice on May 1. The invoice will include:
- A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Full seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
- A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.
Acme will continue to get monthly invoices for Jenny’s Full seat unless an admin proactively adds the monthly seat to their annual subscription.
How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Organization and Enterprise plans
On the Organization or Enterprise plans, prorated billing means a transition away from the existing true-up model.
Current
Today, the Organization and Enterprise plans have an annual subscription with true-ups every three months. True-ups account for any paid seats added or removed during the quarter.
With true-ups, admins can review seats and remove them before the next invoice to avoid being charged.
This mechanism existed as a way to control for user-driven seat upgrades that hadn’t been approved by an admin, but required more time to review.
Future
Now that admins have upfront approval over seat upgrades by default, approved seats are included in your next invoice with prorated pricing, based on the date they were approved until the end of the annual subscription term.
You’ll still get quarterly invoices every 3, 6, and 9 months of your annual subscription term, but there won't be user-driven upgrades to review during that period.
Example
Twigma Inc. has an Organization subscription with 20 Full seats. Their subscription renews on January 1, and they receive quarterly invoices on April 1, July 1, and October 1.
Benny joins Twigma on September 15 and an admin approves a Full seat for them. In this scenario, Twigma will get their quarterly invoice on October 1. The invoice will include:
- A charge for $195.29, which is the prorated cost of 108 days worth of Design seat usage on the Organization plan. 108 days covers the cost of Benny’s seat from September 15 through the remainder of the annual Organization subscription term.
When will my final true-up be?
Your last true-up will be three months before your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025. For example, if your subscription renews on October 1, 2025, your last true-up will be July 1, 2025.
I don’t know my plan
Admins with control over billing can see their plan from admin settings.
- From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
- Select the Billing tab.
- Look for mentions of Professional, Organization, or Enterprise. This is your plan.
If you don’t have access to Admin—or can’t see the above information in the Billing tab in Admin—you can check which plan you're on from the file browser:
- If you see All projects as an item in your sidebar, you’re on the Starter or Professional plan.
- If you see All teams, you’re on the Organization or Enterprise plans.
- If you see All teams and All workspaces, you're on the Enterprise plan.
If you’re part of multiple plans, you can also click the plan switcher in the file browser to see which plan each team or organization is on.
