Request an upgrade to a paid seat

Who can use this feature
Available on all paid plans
Applies to members and guests with viewer-restricted seats
If you have a viewer-restricted seat in Figma design, Dev Mode, or FigJam, you can request an upgrade to a full seat.
Requesting a paid seat only applies to the file type you’re requesting from: either a Figma design or FigJam file. For example, if you request an upgrade from a FigJam file, the upgrade only applies to your FigJam seat. You’ll need to make a separate request to upgrade your Figma design seat.
Tip: On the Organization or Enterprise plans, you can review which seat types you have from your account settings.
- From the file browser, click your name at the top left of the page.
- Click Settings.
- Scroll down to the Organizations section to see your Figma design, Dev Mode, and FigJam seat types in the organization.
Request a paid seat
You’ll get an email and in-app notification as soon as an admin has approved or declined your request.
- Open a Figma design file.
- Click Edit file in the toolbar.
- If needed, write a reason for your upgrade and then press Request upgrade.
- Dev Mode is included with full Figma design seats on the Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans.
- Dev Mode is available as a standalone paid seat on the Organization and Enterprise plans.
- Open a Figma design file.
- If needed, click the Dev Mode toggle at the top right of the toolbar.
- Click Get Dev Mode in the banner at the top of the page. If you’re on the Professional plan, this will request a full Design seat. If you’re on the Organization or Enterprise plan, this will request a standalone Dev Mode seat.
- Open a FigJam file.
- Click Edit file in the toolbar.
- If needed, write a reason for your upgrade and then press Request upgrade.
Note: Requesting a paid seat won't give you edit access to every file in a team or organization. You can only edit files where you have can edit
access. If you don't have edit access to the file, Figma sends a request to edit to the file owner after your seat upgrade has been approved.
What should I do if my request is declined?
If you don't agree with an admin's decision, we recommend reaching out to your manager or an admin. The email address of the admin who declined your request is included in the notification.
