Manage team members and permissions
Before you start
Who can use this feature
Supported on Starter, Education, and Professional teams.
Members can only invite other members at a permission level equal to, or less than, their own permissions. This includes upgrading existing members.
Control how collaborators interact with your team with permissions. There are two main access levels in a team:
- Can view: Viewers can comment on any files and prototypes, but they can't make changes to layers, objects, or properties within team files.
- Can edit: Editors can make changes to team files or prototypes, as well as their contents. Like viewers, they can also comment on files.
In a team, you can also give specific collaborators admin permissions. Admins can perform extra administrative actions within the team, including managing team members and their permissions.

If someone leaves your company - or doesn't need access to your projects any more - you can remove them from your team. You can also remove people who aren't members of the team, but have access to team files or project.
When you remove a collaborator, Figma will:
- Revoke their access to any files and projects shared within the team.
- Remove them from the team's subscription (if they were an Admin or had Can Edit access).
- Transfer any team projects or files they created/owned to the current team owner. This doesn't include files in their Drafts.
Note: If they are the current Owner of the team, they will need to transfer ownership of the team to another member before you can remove them.
- Find the member in the list.
- Click the in their row.
- Select Remove from the options.
Note: It's possible to also invite collaborator's to individual team files and projects. This includes any invite-only teams. If a member has access to individual files and projects, you will need to remove the collaborator from those too.
Transfer ownership
Figma will designate the person who originally created the team as the owner. You will need to transfer ownership of the team to a new owner. Learn more about owners →
Only the current owner can transfer the ownership of the team to another member. They can transfer ownership to any existing team member, including a member with Can view
access.
Caution: This process only changes the ownership of the team, it won't update the billing details for the team's subscription. If you also pay for the subscription, you will need to update the billing details for your team →, before you transfer ownership.
- Open the team in the file browser and select the Members tab.
- Click the arrow next to their Team-level permissions and select Owner from the options.
- Figma will ask you to confirm the transfer. It's not possible to undo this action, but the new owner can choose to transfer ownership again. Click Transfer ownership to confirm.
- Figma will update the member to the owner and give the previous owner an admin role on the team.
Note: Figma won't remove the previous owner from the team, they will stay on the team as an Admin. The member can leave the team themselves, or another Admin can remove them.
