Manage team permissions
Members can invite other members at a permission level equal to, or less than, their own permissions. Team admins can manage everyone's permissions on the team, as well as:
- View, sort, search for, and filter team members and external collaborators
- View and manage what files and resources external collaborators have access to
- Manage and update roles and team permissions
Manage members
View members
- From the file browser, click into your Starter team.
- Click the Members icon to review a list of members on the team.
For every member on the team, Figma shows:
- Name: Their name and avatar. Click someone's name to open their internal profile and view which files they've contributed to.
- Email: The email address associated with their Figma account.
- Permissions: What level of access they have on the team.
Note: Members who have yet to accept an invitation to the team will show up as Pending in the Members tab. To resend an invitation, click the and select Resend invitation.
- From the file browser, find your Professional team and click the Admin Console icon next to the team name in the sidebar.
- Switch to the Members tab to view a list of members invited to the team.
For every member on the team, Figma shows:
- Name: Their name, profile picture, and email address. Click the email to copy the address to your clipboard.
- Last active: This is the date they took an action in Figma, this doesn't have to be an edit action. For example: moved a file, viewed a prototype, published a library.
- Team permissions: What level of access they have to the team. If a member doesn't have team-level permissions, you'll see how many files they can edit instead.
- Role: The person's billing status and highest level of access they can gain in the team. Every team member and external collaborator will have a role.
Sort and filter members:
- Use the Search field to find a specific member.
- Use the drop down fields to filter members by the following criteria:
- Last active: More than 7 days, More than 30 days, More than 3 months.
- Team permissions: Owner, Admin, Can edit, Can view.
- Role: Viewer, Viewer - restricted, Editor.
- Click Name, Last active, or Team permissions header to sort by that column. Click again to switch between descending ↓ and ascending ↑ order.
Note: Members who have yet to accept an invitation to the team will show up as Pending in the Members tab. To resend an invitation, click the and select Resend invitation.
- From the file browser, click into the team where you are an admin.
- Click the Members icon to review a list of members on the team.
For every member or guest Figma shows:

Manage member permissions
Set a member's permissions when you invite them to the team. Admins can make changes to a person’s team permissions or remove their access to the team.
Note: If you see someone with next to their can view
permissions, it means they have edit access to at least one file or project in the team. Figma will also include them in your team's billing. Click and select See edit access.
Click next to their current permissions:
- Select Can view to give them view access to the team. If you're in a Professional team, you can still give viewers edit access to individual files and projects.
- Select Can edit to give them can edit access to team files and projects. This will also upgrade them to a paid editor role and they'll be included in your team's subscription.
- Select Admin to grant them admin access to the team. This will give them edit access and allow them to adjust team settings.
- Select Owner to make them the owner of the team (there can only be one owner) Learn how to transfer ownership →
Click next to their current permissions:
- Select Can view to give them view access to the team. If you're in a Professional team, you can still give viewers edit access to individual files and projects.
- Select Can edit to give them can edit access to team files and projects. This will also upgrade them to a paid editor role and they'll be included in your team's subscription.
- Select Admin to grant them admin access to the team. This will allow them to adjust team settings, adjust permissions for other members, and manage team billing. adjust their role ↓ if they don't require edit access.
- Select Owner to make them the owner of the team (there can only be one owner) Learn how to transfer ownership →
Click next to the member's permissions:
- Select Can view to give them view only access to the team. Anyone with view access can view files and prototypes and add or reply to comments.
- Select Can edit to give them edit access to the team. If they have a viewer-restricted role in the organization they won't be able to edit any team files. They can request an upgrade from an organization admin to gain edit access and edit files on this team.
- Select Admin to make them a team admin and allow them to access the billing tab, as well as adjust permissions for other members. They will also get Can edit access to files and projects.
Apply actions in bulk (Professional plan only)
On a Professional team you can update member roles, remove membership, or copy emails in bulk.
- Use the checkboxes next to each member to select members.
- Click the check at the top of the table to select all members.
- Use the menu at the bottom of the screen to apply an action in bulk:
- Change role: assign the same role to your selection.
- Copy emails: copy all email addresses to your clipboard, separated by a semicolon.
- Remove: remove all selected members from the team. Learn more about removing members →
Manage roles (Professional plan only)
Everyone that interacts with a team has a FigJam and a Figma role. This includes team members and external collaborators with access to individual files or projects.
A person's role or billing status determines the highest level of access they have. Only team admins, or the team owner, can update member roles.
People can have different roles on FigJam and Figma. This is great for non-designers who you want to collaborate with in FigJam files, that don't need to edit design files.
Click for their Figma role.
- Select Viewer - restricted to restrict their access to design files to view-only access. This remove them from the team's billing, and only team admins can upgrade them to a paid editor role.
- Select Editor to allow them to take edit actions in Figma design files. Figma will include anyone with an editor roles in your team's subscription.
Click for their FigJam role.
- Select Viewer - restricted to restrict their access to FigJam files to view-only. This removes them from the team's billing, and only team admins can upgrade them to a paid editor role.
- Select Editor to allow them to take edit actions in FigJam files. Figma will include anyone with an editor roles in your team's subscription.
Viewer is a provisional role on the team. Figma will only upgrade viewers to a paid editor role if they take an explicit edit action on a file.
It's not possible to assign someone back to a viewer role. To remove their access, select Viewer - restricted. Learn more about roles in teams →
Tip: You can view how someone gained edit access and was upgraded to an editor role. Hover over the date underneath their Editor role to view the upgrade reason.
Click to access more actions for that collaborator:
- See edit access: view the access modal for that member to see what files and projects they have edit access to.
- Copy email: copy their email address to your clipboard
- Invite to team: invite them to your team to give them access to all team files and projects
- Remove: remove their access from any team files and projects
Set default permissions for a team (Organization and Enterprise plans only)
Admins can set default permissions for when a member joins a team.
- New members can view
Joining the team lets the member view and request to edit files. - New members can edit
Joining the team lets the member create, edit and delete files.
To change the default permissions:
- From the file browser, click into the team you want to manage.
- Click the dropdown menu next to the team name and select View settings.
- Click the dropdown menu next to the currenct default permissions to update them for new members who join the team.
