Manage billing on the Organization and Enterprise plans
This article explains how Figma’s billing model works today. Starting in March 2025, we’re introducing changes to how seats and other billing features work.

The Organization and Enterprise plans have an annual subscription with true-ups every three months. True-ups account for any paid seats added or removed during the year.
Understanding true-ups
With the Organization and Enterprise plan, you can:
- Buy a set number of paid seats for the year.
- Add additional paid seats at any time.
- If a person with a viewer seat performs an upgrade action, they automatically upgrade to a paid full seat. However, they can use Figma for free until your next true-up, which removes friction for teams sharing work and lowers your average price per seat.
- Decide during the true-up period whether to keep and pay a pro-rated amount for your additional full seats – or downgrade them to a free, viewer-restricted seat.
Note: You can avoid unexpected paid seats using the viewer-restricted seat. On both the Organization and Enterprise plans, you can assign new members a viewer-restricted seat by default.
Four weeks before the true-up, Figma will send an email reminder to the organization's billing contacts. This shows the number of full seats in Figma Design, FigJam, and Dev Mode added since the last billing date. Figma will send further reminders at two weeks, then three days before the true-up is due.
Figma will also send reminders at 14 days and five days before the annual subscription is due to renew. This gives organization admins time to adjust the amount of full seats they want to include in their annual subscription.
Manage users during a true-up
During the two week period before Figma issues your true-up invoice, you can:
- Review the list of paid seats in your account
- Downgrade anyone who shouldn’t have a paid seat
- Lock in your invoice amount
Confirm paid seats during a true-up
New paid seats in Figma Design, FigJam, and Dev Mode can be added to your organization during your billing period, but won’t be charged until an organization admin locks in the invoice during the true-up period.
Note: On the Enterprise plan with billing groups, billing group admins can help out during the true-up period by reviewing and managing paid seats in billing groups they manage. Here’s how a true-up works using billing groups:
- During the two-week period before Figma issues your true-up invoice, billing admins and organization admins can review and adjust the number of paid seats in each billing group.
- Once someone reviews a billing group, they can mark it as reviewed. This is an optional step, and helps organization admins see which billing groups have been checked.
- An organization admin locks in the invoice amount.
- From the file browser, click Admin.
- Select the Billing page.
- At the top of the page you can view a summary of the upcoming invoice, including the number of paid seats since your last invoice.
- To review a list of specific people who have upgraded their account, click View new seat changes.
- From the file browser, click Admin.
- Select the relevant billing group in the sidebar.
- If needed, click Add members and assign members to your billing group.
- Click a column header to sort by ascending or descending values.
- For any given member, you can update their Figma Design, Dev Mode, or FigJam seat to either Full (paid) or Viewer-restricted (free).
- Once you've managed people's seats in your billing group, click Confirm in the true-up banner.
Tip: Click the timestamp in the Last active column to review:
- The date and action that led to a person becoming a paid seat in Figma Design and FigJam.
- The date and description of the last five activities taken by the person.
Downgrade paid users to free
- From the file browser, click Admin.
- Select the People tab.
- For any given member, you can change their Figma design, Dev Mode, or FigJam seat from Full to Viewer-restricted.
Note: It’s not possible to downgrade someone to a viewer seat, since a person with a viewer seat can upgrade themselves back to a full seat on their own. With the viewer-restricted seat, a person will need to ask for permission to upgrade their account. On the Enterprise plan, you can set default seat types to prevent unexpected seat upgrades.
Lock in your invoice
After reviewing paid seats in your account, an organization admin can finalize your invoice for the upcoming quarter. Any new paid seats added after finalizing your invoice – and throughout the upcoming quarter – will get included in the next quarterly true-up.
- From the file browser, click Admin.
- Select the People tab.
- In the true-up summary at the top of the page, click Confirm and finalize invoice.
- Click on the Billing tab to see a confirmation that your invoice has been finalized.
What happens if I didn’t make adjustments before my invoice was finalized?
We are unable to adjust invoices after they have been issued. This is part of our standard terms of service.
Make a payment
For true-ups and annual renewal, Figma will use the payment method you chose when you upgraded to the Organization or Enterprise plan. If you need to make changes, you can update your payment method at any time.
If you have a purchase order you'd like to include on your invoice, please send it to our support team. You can submit as many purchase orders as you need within a quarter. Figma will only generate one invoice for every true-up.
