Figma for Education

Figma partners with SheerID to verify all student and educator applications.

1. Log in to Figma using the account you want to verify. If you have a school-issued email address, please use it.
2. Visit the Education status application page: https://www.figma.com/education/apply.
3. Select Higher Ed as your institution type.
4. Agree to the terms of service.
5. Click Submit.
6. Complete the SheerID form with your school and personal details.

1. Log in to Figma using the account you want to verify. You must login with a school-issued email address. Non-school emails will be auto-rejected.
2. Visit the Education status application page: https://www.figma.com/education/apply.
3. Select High school as the type of institution you attend or work for.
4. Agree to the terms of service.
5. Select Student, Educator, or Administrator.
6. [If applicable] Select what subject you teach.
7. [If applicable] Tell us how you plan to use Figma in your classroom.
8. Confirm you are a current student or educator.
9. Click Submit.

Bootcamps will verify on behalf of their students and educators.

• If you are a bootcamp student or educator, there is no action needed from you. Please reach out to your bootcamp directly with any questions.
• If you are a bootcamp admin, you should apply to join our list of trusted partners and verify your students directly. Please read on for the bootcamp qualification requirements:

Required qualifications for approval:

1. Educational focus: Clear mission to teach design, tech, or creativity skills with Figma as a core part of the curriculum.
2. Structured course: Structured, curriculum-based instruction with a teacher or mentor-led model.
3. Legitimate classroom environment: Teaches genuine full- or part-time learners, not commercial teams seeking internal professional development.
4. Transparency: Public website showing curriculum, instructors, admissions, and tuition.
5. Non-commercial use: Figma is not used for client work, agency projects, or revenue generation.
6. Minimum student count: At least 10 students per cohort.

Potential disqualifications:

1. Self-directed, unstructured courses: Single-user courses with no teaching, mentorship or community components.
2. Independent tutoring: 1:1 or small group tutoring that is not part of a formalized program.
3. Trains commercial partners: Hosts one-off or continuous training for commercial clients seeking internal professional development, not full- or part-time learners.
4. Lack of authoritative proof: No evidence of bootcamp with a website or social media. Similarly, no curriculum, instructor info, or verifiable student activity.
5. For-profit client work: Bootcamps acting as design agencies or offering services to clients.
6. Misuse of EDU access: History of sharing accounts, using EDU licenses commercially, or reselling.

1. Open the Figma file browser and click Create free team in the sidebar or visit https://www.figma.com/files/create-team.
2. Give your team a name and click Create team. You can always change this after the team is created.
3. Start inviting students, educators and other collaborators to your team. Anyone you invite with can edit access to the team must verify their education status within seven days.
4. Click Continue and then Complete upgrade.

An education team gets access to the Figma Professional plan. When you upgrade an existing team, you must upgrade to the Professional plan then let Figma know you qualify for an education team.

1. Open the file browser by logging in to your account at figma.com.
2. Next to the team name on the left sidebar, click the Free badge.
3. In the upgrade modal, select the Education plan option and complete the upgrade process.

Following the September 29 deadline, the following changes will start to take effect:

Education team members (not team owners):

• You will be downgraded to view-only access on any education teams you were part of. You can still see files, but you cannot edit until you are reverified. You can still move files to other teams you belong to.

Education team admins (team owners):

• If your team had 3 or fewer files: Your education team will be converted to a free Starter team. You can still access and edit your files, but Professional features are no longer available.
• If your team had 4 or more files: Your education team will be downgraded to a free Starter team and locked. When a team is locked, you can still download files or move files to another team. Moving forward, you can choose to do one of the following:
  • Unlock your team and stay on the Starter plan: Reduce your file count to three or fewer by moving files back to drafts or deleting files. This will unlock the Starter team.
  • Reverify your education status to unlock paid features again, at no cost
  • Upgrade to a paid plan

If you reverify after September 29:

• Once your reverification is approved, your education team regains access to Professional features, and you can edit files again.

• If you are still eligible, you can reverify your education status to regain paid plan features.
• If you are no longer eligible, you can continue using the free Starter plan or upgrade to a paid plan to unlock Professional features again.

If your team had 4 or more files and you didn't reverify your education status by September 29, your education team will be downgraded to a free Starter team and locked. When a team is locked, you can still download files or move files to another team. Moving forward, you can choose to do one of the following:

• Unlock your team and stay on the Starter plan: Reduce your file count to three or fewer by moving files back to drafts or deleting files. This will unlock the Starter team.
• Reverify your education status to unlock paid features again, at no cost
• Upgrade to a paid plan

To move a file:

1. In the file browser, find the file you want to move.
2. Right click the file thumbnail and select Move file…
3. Select the All tab to see a list of all your teams.
4. Select a team, then select either that team’s Drafts space or a project.
5. Click Move.

If you’ve verified the wrong account, please reach out to our team at education@figma.com.

Once you’ve hit your verification limit, contact the SheerID support team to reset your limit and continue working on your verification.

If you are having issues verifying your account with Sheer ID, review the following:

• You must log in with a school-issued email address. Personal emails are not accepted.
  • If you created your Figma account with a personal email: update your account to your school-issued email in your account settings before reapplying.
• Ensure you are not on a VPN.
• For document uploads, do not send course syllabuses. Your documents must prove your enrollment in the school.

If you are still having trouble verifying your account, work directly with the SheerID support team rather than trying to resubmit multiple times.

If SheerID rejects your application, start troubleshooting directly with the SheerID support team rather than trying to resubmit multiple times.

If you are having issues verifying your account, review the following:

• You must log in with a school-issued email address. Personal emails are not accepted.
  • If you created your Figma account with a personal email: update your account to your school-issued email in your account settings before reapplying.
• If your school’s domain isn’t recognized, complete this form for review.
• Homeschool educators or students: email education@figma.com with proof of your status for manual review.

Bootcamp students and educators can’t self-verify. Your bootcamp admin must apply to join our list of approved partners and submit user lists for verification.

• If you are a student, reach out directly to your bootcamp admin for help.
• If you are a bootcamp admin, apply to join our list of trusted partners and verify your students directly.

Yes. Admins can manage and deploy Figma licenses from within the Google Admin Console using the App Licensing System. This takes about 5 minutes to set up once you fill out this form.

Figma also integrates with Google Meet so you can start a file from within a meeting. Plus you can attach Figma files to Calendar events using our Chrome extension and insert files into Docs and Sheets as smartchips.

Yes. Admins can manage and deploy Figma licenses with Microsoft Education. They will be able to use SAML SSO to automatically provision a licenses to each student and educator in their domain. You can get started by filling out this form.

Figma Make and Figma Sites are available to most Education team users. If you are on an Education team and don’t have access to Figma Make or Figma Sites, it is because of one of the following reasons:

• You are a high school user. High school students and educators do not have access to Figma Make or Figma Sites.
• You have not yet reverified your education status. In order to access Figma Make or Figma Sites, Education team members must complete the updated verification process.
